Zimbabwe is producing African hip hop on levels that are beyond our imagination. Synik is undoubtedly one of the best lyricists out of Zimbabwe but is humble enough to put some heavyweights on his album. With verses from Metaphysics, Begotten Sun, Tehn Diamond, Karizma, Munetsi, Jnr Brown, MC Chita, Mic-Inity and celestial production incorporating traditional African instruments, this is clearly a giant leap in the definition of the hip hop scene. Partnered with a strong visual campaign emulating the cult classic neo-noir movie, Sin City, the music itself meanders between celebration and introspection as Synik relates his journey and who has been along for the ride with him.
Directed by Begotten Son, Rufaro Dhliwayo and directed by rapper/animator/director/presenter Enqore (yes the album was directed – check out the corresponding video to see why), it’s easy to see what happens when people put their various talents together. Hi my friend! I wish to say that this article is awesome, great written and come with almost all vital infos. I would like to look extra posts like this .
A great album from a really great artist. Its always worth while to listen to music from someone who has a story to tell not the usual gabbage that is polluting the airwaves nowadays (no offense). This album brings forth an unmatched rawness and a commitment to its vision that will amaze even its sceptics. The mix of mbira’s with modern instruments as seen in Muripo gives a sense of pride even to the untrained listener and the crafty features sprinkled generously across the album add flair as seasoned rhyme spitters go against each other. The most compelling feature about the album is its sincerity and relatablility on an individual basis. I Would really encourage those who can to buy it. Definately one of the best Zimbabwean albums EVER.
